The Weightlifter Gururaja started the day on a great note for India as he won the men’s 56 kg silver to win his country’s first medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. The Indian badminton gear also defeated Sri Lanka in the opening pool games while the women’s hockey team lost 2-3 to Wales.

The 25-year old Gururaja equaled his personal best of 249kg (111+138) to finish second in a field where Malaysia’s. The Three time Commonwealth Championships medallist Muhammad Izhar Ahmed (117+144) broke the Games record for snatch and overall lift.
