Aadhaar linking deadline extended to March 31. The Central Government said to the Supreme Court that the deadline for extension of Aadhaar linking to various schemes and welfare programs would be extended until March 31. It is made it clear that this is applicable to those not having Aadhaar card. Attorney General KK Venugopal told the bench comprising Chief Justice Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice AM Khanvalkar and Justice DH Chandrachud.
The Center is willing to increase the deadline until December 31, as it will be issued on Friday. There is no change in the deadline as the Supreme Court had earlier ordered that Aadhaar should be connected to the mobile number by February 6. Those having Aadhaar card should link Aadhaar with their bank accounts and SIM cards. Senior advocate Shyam Diwan on behalf of clients who filed lawsuits against Aadhaar, demanded that the central government should not take stringent action against those who do not connect Aadhaar.
The Attorney General said that if anyone has applied for Aadhaar card, no action will be taken against them. They said the benefits of welfare schemes should not be stopped till March 31.
